COVA’s Mission is to provide an environment in which Colombian video games studios can collaborate to advance their businesses and the industry as a whole.
We believe in transparency, communication and helping each other be better every day, learning from other’s successes and failures.
We believe the rising tide lifts all the boats, and that the success of any studio in Colombia helps positioning the country as a great place for creating video games, which benefits all studios in consequence.
The early 2000s were witness to the birth and first steps of the Colombian video game industry. A handful of indie game developers, packing more passion than knowledge, decided to venture into the unknown and laid the groundwork for the studios that came after them. Two decades have passed since those brave pioneers set the first line of code. During this time, many lessons were learned by the members of our trade, becoming more capable with each passing day, and now able to tackle global challenges and audiences. The result is a solid, growing industry. An industry that has found a strong foundation in the collaboration between studios, government, and academia.
Today more than 30 video games studios develop and export products from Colombia to the world, and have been doing an amazing job in positioning the country as a leading hub for video game development in the region. In 2018 the most representative studios in the country decided to form the Colombian Videogames Association (COVA) to propel the industry forward.
